Do You Drive with Calibrated Skill—or Dangerous Illusion?

If you are like 80% of drivers, you probably believe you are “above average” behind the wheel. But mathematically, that is an absolute impossibility.

Every time you turn the ignition, you step into a two-ton machine traveling at highway speeds. Yet the single greatest threat to your safety isn’t mechanical failure or poor road design—it’s your own brain.

In Road Blindspots: Why Most Drivers Think They Are Better Than They Are, Jillaine Ramirez exposes the silent, psychological trap that puts millions of drivers at risk daily: the Dunning-Kruger Effect.

The Autopilot Trap: Why Survival is Not the Same as Skill

Most of us mistake the absence of accidents for the presence of skill. We drive the same route for fifteen years without an incident, and our confidence swells. But when the unexpected happens—a sudden patch of black ice, a child darting into the street, or a driver running a red light—our unchecked overconfidence is instantly revealed as a liability.

This book is your mirror. It doesn’t lecture or condemn. Instead, it holds up an objective lens to the way we behave behind the wheel, showing you exactly how to close the gap between how good you think you are and how safe you actually are.

What You Will Discover Inside:

The Competence-Confidence Mismatch: Understand why experience alone doesn’t make you a better driver, and how to transition from unconscious incompetence to true mastery.

The Hands-Free Myth Exposed: Why cognitive distractions are just as deadly as physical ones, and how the cell phone industry has misled us about safety.

The Hidden Physics of the Road: A breakdown of traction, skidding, and reaction time that will change the way you view following distances and speed limits.

Your Personal Safety Diagnostics: Step-by-step guidance on leveraging dashcams, telematics data, and driving journals to uncover dangerous habits you didn’t know you had.

Mindful Driving in High-Stress Traffic: Simple, practical exercises—like the breath anchor—to calm road anxiety, manage aggressive impulses, and keep your attention locked on the present moment.

Ego-Free Feedback: How to gather and implement constructive critique from passengers, peers, and professional instructors without taking it personally.
