Charlie Hunter has experienced great disappointment and loss in his life and feels as if God is 'out to get him'.
After his wife Arlene is killed by a drunk driver he sets off on the life of a mariner-a Vagabond, fleeing his past and fleeing from God. However no matter how much he tries he cannot escape the images in his own mind. From the Arabian sea to the South China Sea, he finds himself attacked by all manner of brigands determined to make his life miserable. He is certain it is all God's doing-out to get him-like a hound pursuing his prey. When he sets out on a sea voyage with friends, Christians all, he is not surprised when they come under attack by drug lords and pirates in Columbia. The Hound of Heaven has found him again and he is brought face to face with the futility of his life by the voice of a Child. “Out of the mouth of babes.” Psalm 139-"Where can I go from the Lord, where shall I flee from his presence?” That is Charlie's dilemma.
