ABOUT ALAN WATTS
Alan Wilson Watts, an English writer, lecturer, and self-described “philosophical entertainer,” was most known for translating and popularizing Eastern philosophical traditions such as Buddhism, Taoism, and Hinduism for a Western audience. He lived from January 6, 1915, to November 16, 1973. He immigrated to the United States in 1938 and started his Zen training in New York after being born in Chislehurst, England. He graduated from Seabury-Western Theological Seminary with a master's in theology, and in 1945 he was ordained as an Episcopal priest. In 1950, he quit the ministry and relocated to California, where he joined the American Academy of Asian Studies faculty.
