Batman, Superman, and Philosophy

Traveling on the transhumanist road won’t be an easy one, but we’re already on it and Batman is no place to stop

Superheroes appear to do morally good actions—but how can we know why they do what they do? Superheroes could tell us what they’re thinking, but how could we be sure we’re even talking the same language? These are crucial questions to ask because superheroes represent our future

Transhumanism is different from eugenics because it doesn’t focus on any alleged sub-group of people. It’s focused on the whole of humanity and improving conditions for everyone

The point is that we’re going to stand in a similar position to the people of the distant future, unable to quite comprehend what humanity will be capable of. One day, humanity might be altogether transcended

Maybe we should all be a bit more like Batman and instead of counting on someone else to save us, spend a bit more time trying to save someone else

But we don’t. Like Luthor and the Joker, we use our superheroes to serve our own ends
